KALDEWEI, Ahlen, July 2024 – KALDEWEI has already won several Red Dot Awards. In 2022, the floor-level shower surface Superplan Zero and the washbasin Nueva received awards at the same time. The Meisterstück Oyo Duo free-standing bath followed in 2023. KALDEWEI has been part of the Red Dot exhibition since 2016 and was previously located in the so-called “Kessel” of the museum in the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex. In the future, the bathroom manufacturer will display its award-winning products in the central exhibition area “Design Fundamentals” on the ground floor directly at the main entrance. Here, visitors can get an overview right from the start of what characterises good design.
As part of “Design Fundamentals”, KALDEWEI is focusing on the special properties of the high-tech material steel enamel on an exhibition area of over 4,000 square metres. By means of several panels, visitors learn a lot about the special properties of KALDEWEI bathroom solutions as well as about the sophisticated material steel enamel. After all, KALDEWEI is the only bathroom manufacturer in the world that produces its own enamel in its own smelting plant according to a secret formulation and then uses it to refine the steel blanks.
Of course, a few award-winning highlight products will also be shown: the Miena washbowl based on a design by designer Anke Salomon (awarded the Red Dot Award in 2018), the Nueva washbasin (2022) by Studio Aisslinger and the free-standing Meisterstück Oyo Duo bathtub in egg-shape design, developed by designer Stefan Diez. Due to its shape, the product appears to float and integrates easily into the room without neglecting comfort. “Making a flowing form of this size out of sustainable, double-walled steel enamel is a design first,” praised the jury of the Red Dot Award in 2023, “especially since the design takes into account not only the appearance and material but also the aspect of water saving.”
Oyo Duo also impressed the international expert judges with its uncompromising durability and 100 per cent circularity. The Meisterstück is made of fully recyclable steel enamel. With this concept, KALDEWEI combines individual luxury and design with sustainability and resource conservation. This is exactly the aspect that is now reflected in KALDEWEI’s new exhibition space in the Red Dot Museum.
About the Red Dot Design Award
The Red Dot Design Award is one of the largest design competitions in the world. In order to be able to evaluate the diversity in the field of design professionally, the award is divided into three disciplines: the Red Dot Award: Product Design, Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design and Red Dot Award: Design Concept. Each competition is organised once a year. A jury comes together for each award, which assesses the submissions individually and then decides on the awarding of the prizes. The products, brands and communication projects submitted as well as design concepts and prototypes are evaluated by the Red Dot Jury, which meets once a year for each competition and according to their individual areas of expertise. The award-winning designs are presented in the Red Dot Design Museums, in the online presentation and in the Red Dot Design Yearbook, among others. The award winners use the winning label in their own communications and marketing to stand out from the competition.
